Rape Gurney Joe
I've already devoted a post today on civility (and the lack of it) on the right towards fellow members of the right, so it seems proper that this post by Ann Althouse caught my eye, in which the left does the exact same thing to the left.
Joe Lieberman, while generally pro-choice, has taken the position that Catholic hospitals should not be forced by the state to provide aborticants in their emergency rooms since it goes against their basic principles. Agree with the position or disagree with it, this post isn't really about abortion.
Because of this position, Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake, a blogger prominent at the recent YearlyKos meeting, started calling Sen. Lieberman Rape Gurney Joe.
She sounds like a lovely woman.
Althouse has the whole story, but what is interesting is that Hamsher replied to Althouse's post about civility in public discourse by calling her an idiot and portraying her as a baboon. And then she portrays Sen. Barbara Boxer as a baboon as well. Sen. Barbara Boxer! About as liberal a Senator as can be found. Truly amazing. Boxer's sin: stumping for her fellow Democratic Senator, Joe Lieberman.
Never thought I'd write this, but I'm siding with Sen. Boxer on this one.

Update: Thanks for all the Instapundit readers for showing up to my modest lil' blog. This is my first Instalanche, and I'm so enjoying it more than I should.

I left the ultra left led by The Excellency DailyKos in 2004. I could not stand their hatred towards any living thing that does not act like a pavlion dog to their wish and command. If Joe does not do what Kosola wants, then he is a bad, a very bad man. If Boxer supports Joe, then she is a very, bad woman. And, how dare Ann talk about being even-handed. The nerve. People. Just do as we say it. This is the Left speaking. We have the word of Allah. Bow before us.
Jane H. is a Hollywood producer. She has blogged at HuffPost. Good for DailyKos. A movie in works...
"...I'm siding with Sen Boxer..."
Ewwww!!!!!
Please. Do not defend Sen Boxer.
Sen Boxer is indefensible. (I live in CA, I get to experience it up close and personal). Just avert your eyes and let them sort it out amongst themselves.
The left is effectively saving the GOP millions in campaign donations.
Here is a humorous take on the leftist mind. Quite weird, when you really deconstruct it.
Also, these 'leftists', being as twisted and tortured as they are, are unusually miserable people. They have mastered the art of perpetual self-loathing, proven by recent study from the Pew Center.
Hamsher's motto: If you can't find something nice to say about someone, go for it!
The boundless rage of these people is stunninng.
Why would they ever think we'd let them accede to power? That kind of rage backed by the power of government is a very frightening thought.
That is, if you think about those things which, apparently, they don't.
You know I'm a former demorcrat now a republican and Tip O'Neil remains one of my polictical heroes. When I read things like this I think of this story.
It seems Tom Harkin when a member of the house was being pressured to vote on a bill that his district opposed but Labor supported. (In those days Labor had more clout.) The Union mem were leaning on him hard and promising to run somebody in the primaries to beat him if he didn't go their way. Harkin went to O'Neil and a meeting was set up in Tip's office. After talking about how good a Demorcrat Harkin was O'Neil said the following:
You know over the last twenty years I've voted against labor only three times. Just think of it, in all those years there was only three times Labor had it wrong!
There is a difference between being evil, stupid and wrong. And no one side has a monopoly on those traits
I'm a man of the right I think in general you on the left are wrong. That doesn't make you stupid or evil, that makes you wrong. If someone on the left does something stupid (Say Sheehan on Chavez vs Bush) I'll call you on it, but in general you have your opinons and I have mine and as long as we come by them honestly we should be cool.
I think the moral dimension enters in for libertarians when we believe that punitive (="progressive") taxation is a form of theft, and for leftists when they believe the center and right's preference for low taxes and reduced services reflects greed. In the context of our respective worldviews, we're both correct.
Hey, Lee... Good for us though, huh?
That is correct, Josh. I encourage all new readers here to check out my buddies on the blogroll. Some are lib, some conservative, some apolitical, but all are quality.
(Heh, gotta spread the love. This is so much fun.)
Your post inspired one of my own, in which people fight with others they have a lot of common with, depending on the group they are in.
Gotta love that a post about how certain memebers of the left are bad because of their venom brings out the venom of the right as well. Hypocrites are fun (I'm talking about some of your commenters, not you Lee).
Hold your friends close... your enemies even closer.
